The Western Cape Department of Infrastructure says a R262 million road-maintenance contract covering about 60km near Worcester has reached completion, with the contractor attending to final snags.

The 16-month programme combined periodic maintenance with repairs on a group of trunk and divisional roads serving Worcester and the surrounding agricultural areas. The department published its completion update on 6 October 2026 and recorded 7 October as the contract completion date.

Routes included in the programme

The works covered sections of Trunk Road 30/2, which carries the R60, and Trunk Road 31/1, which carries the R43. Divisional Roads 1347, 1379 and 1400 in the Nuy Valley were included, along with Divisional Road 1377.

A multi-route maintenance package allows a road authority to address deterioration across a network rather than treating each short section as a separate procurement. The practical test comes after handover, when drainage, surfacing, markings and repaired pavement sections are exposed to traffic and seasonal weather.

The department described the main construction work as complete. Final snag work is part of the close-out process and should not be read as a new construction phase.

Built Report will update the record if the department releases final local-employment, enterprise-spend or close-out figures. Road users should continue to follow official notices where short-duration finishing work affects a lane or shoulder.

What we will track next

The next useful update on R262m Worcester road-repair programme reaches completion should separate emergency access, construction progress and final handover. Contract value, kilometres treated, drainage work, revised dates and independent quality results give a clearer picture than a single percentage.

After opening, performance still needs observation. Pavement edges, culverts, bridge joints, slopes and erosion protection often reveal problems during the first wet season. A named maintenance authority and a baseline condition record make that follow-up possible.
