Built Report

About Built Report

Independent construction journalism for South Africa.

What we cover

Built Report is an independent South African publication focused on construction, infrastructure, housing, the businesses that deliver projects and the public decisions that shape the built environment. Our reporting follows work from planning and procurement through construction, commissioning, maintenance and long-term service performance.

Readers come to the publication for clear reporting about what is being built, who is responsible, how public and private money is being used and whether completed assets work as intended. Coverage includes all nine provinces, with a dedicated Western Cape desk and regular reporting on municipalities, contractors, consultants, developers, suppliers and workers.

How we work

Every published article carries a named author, publication date and visible sources. News, investigations, analysis, opinion and sponsored material are labelled so readers can understand the nature of what they are reading. Where a report relies on official records, those records are linked. Where an author observed a site, attended an event or spoke directly to a source, the article should say so clearly.

Photographs are selected to match the subject of the reporting. Credits, copyright holders and licence information appear with the image and in the public photo-credit register. Context photographs are identified when they do not show the exact project discussed in the article.

Our purpose

Construction reporting is most useful when it connects announcements to evidence. A budget, completion percentage or launch date is only the start of the story. We look for contracts, drawings, payment records, inspection results, commissioning evidence, maintenance plans and the experience of the people who use the finished asset.

The publication aims to make technical subjects understandable without stripping away the details that allow readers to test a claim. We welcome corrections, documented tips and responses from people or organisations named in our reporting.
