The R300 million Wolmaransstad–Wesselsbron road project was completed in May 2026, the North West provincial government reported in its August quarterly briefing.
The route forms a cross-border connection between the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality and the Free State, supporting movement of people and goods.
Other road works move forward
The same provincial update said the Phelindaba multi-year road project had reached practical completion. Contractors had also been introduced for the Dwarsberg-to-Pachsdraai road via Pitsedisulejang.
For the Nelson Mandela Drive Phase 2 project in Mahikeng, a contractor was appointed in July. The planned scope includes widening the Danville Bridge and completing a stormwater structure built during Phase 1, with mobilisation and stakeholder engagement scheduled from August.
These projects are at different stages. Completion of the Wolmaransstad–Wesselsbron road should not be used to imply that the other named works have also been handed over.
What we will track next
The next useful update on R300m Wolmaransstad–Wesselsbron road project reaches completion should separate emergency access, construction progress and final handover. Contract value, kilometres treated, drainage work, revised dates and independent quality results give a clearer picture than a single percentage.
After opening, performance still needs observation. Pavement edges, culverts, bridge joints, slopes and erosion protection often reveal problems during the first wet season. A named maintenance authority and a baseline condition record make that follow-up possible.
