Night construction is under way along AZ Berman Drive in Mitchells Plain as the City of Cape Town advances the MyCiTi Phase 2A project.

The City scheduled the work from 14 September to 14 December 2026 on the section between Nduli Road and Wespoort Road. The published work hours are 19:00 to 05:00 from Monday to Saturday.

Working around daytime traffic

Night shifts allow selected road and public-transport infrastructure work to proceed outside the busiest daytime period. They also introduce specific requirements for lighting, noise control, worker safety, temporary traffic management and clear access to properties.

The City advised residents and road users to expect construction activity and temporary changes along the corridor. The exact position of a work zone can move during a multi-month programme, so drivers should follow signs and instructions in place on the night of travel.

The AZ Berman Drive package is part of the broader Cape Flats route expansion. Its progress should be assessed as one section within a network that also includes stations, connecting roads and operational infrastructure.

The December date is the scheduled end of the notified night-work period, not necessarily the final handover date for the full Phase 2A corridor. Built Report will distinguish later construction notices from confirmed completion milestones.

What we will track next

The next useful update on Night works advance MyCiTi construction on AZ Berman Drive should separate emergency access, construction progress and final handover. Contract value, kilometres treated, drainage work, revised dates and independent quality results give a clearer picture than a single percentage.

After opening, performance still needs observation. Pavement edges, culverts, bridge joints, slopes and erosion protection often reveal problems during the first wet season. A named maintenance authority and a baseline condition record make that follow-up possible.
