The risk
A product can meet the budget and still conflict with performance, dimensions, warranties or other trades. Late review can stop installation.
The control
List every required sample, data sheet, certificate and mock-up with submission, review and ordering dates. Identify who has authority to approve.
Evidence on site
Mark status clearly and link accepted products to drawings and purchase orders. Substitutions require the same review as original selections.
Closing the record
The handover file should reflect what was installed, not only what was first proposed. Retain warranties and maintenance information.
Editorial note
This article provides general construction information from the official reference below. Project requirements depend on the current law, contract, design and site conditions, and should be confirmed by the responsible competent person.
What we will track next
The strongest follow-up to Material submittals prevent the wrong product arriving at the right time is an auditable chain from decision to outcome. Scope, authority, quotation, approval, delivery and payment should agree, with changes recorded while the work is active.
Commercial records are project controls, not end-of-job paperwork. A current programme, cost forecast, instruction register and payment history let the team address risk early and give reviewers evidence for the final account.
